Winter routes require different planning
Park City and Canyons Village via I-80
The drive from SLC Airport climbs approximately 3,000 feet through Parleys Canyon before reaching the Park City area. Canyons Village is the first major resort area after the summit, while central Park City requires additional local travel.
Deer Valley, Silver Lake, Empire Pass, and East Village
Lower Deer Valley is generally reached through Park City. Silver Lake and Empire Pass continue onto higher local roads. Deer Valley East Village and Grand Hyatt Deer Valley are usually reached from U.S. 40. Your driver will use the route that fits the destination and current conditions.
Alta, Snowbird, Solitude, and Brighton
Little and Big Cottonwood Canyons can experience traction restrictions, avalanche-control closures, and significant storm traffic. These trips require additional planning and flexible timing. How long does the winter drive take?
Typical drive times in ordinary winter conditions are approximately:
Park City: 45–55 minutes
Canyons Village: 40–50 minutes
Lower Deer Valley: 45–60 minutes
Upper Deer Valley and East Village: 45–60 minutes
Solitude and Brighton: 45–75 minutes
Alta and Snowbird: 55–90 minutes
These are planning estimates, not guarantees. Active snow, holiday traffic, crashes, plow operations, traction controls, and road closures can add considerable time.
What to expect on an active storm day
Snowfall can reduce visibility, cover lane markings, and slow traffic quickly. Plow trains may control the speed of every lane, and vehicles without sufficient traction can create backups. Canyon restrictions or closures may also affect the route.
First Chair monitors flight timing and plans around the information available before pickup. Drivers follow official restrictions and adjust routing or timing when conditions require it. No transportation provider can override a road closure, but advance communication helps everyone make a safer, more realistic plan.
